Red Sky at Night

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

August sunsets in the Glade can be spectacular. I captured this photo of a beautiful red sky from the yard behind our house. I couldn't help but think, "Red sky at night, sailor's (and Tennessean's) delight".

Falls on Waters Creek

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

This photo, from my archives, is of the Falls on Waters Creek near Turner's Corner, Georgia. We drove back into the Chattahoochee National Forest along a 'lovely' Forest Service road to reach the falls. The waterfall was beautiful, and we were very glad that our Prius could do a wonderful imitation of a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Wildfire Rose

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Our Wildfire rose still looks pretty 'hot' to me, even when covered with raindrops. Betsy and I love the orange-red color of this rose. Wildfire seems like a very appropriate name.

Biltmore House Vista

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

When Betsy and I visited the Biltmore Estate near Asheville, North Carolina, at the end of July, we hiked up to the Statue of Diana, where we had this wonderful view of the house with the mountains behind it.

Moon Over the Glade

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

In late July we were treated to the moon and some beautiful peach-colored clouds in the sky over the Glade at sunset. After the sun dropped below the Plateau I concentrated on the moon and was pleased with the craters I captured near the moon's south pole.

Gemini Rose

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Gemini is one of the first roses we planted in our front yard. It's a bicolor -- I guess that's how it got its name -- of delicate pink and white. It also has a nice fragrance. We're always happy to see it in bloom.

Star Moon

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

In early July I was trying to get a picture of the moon through the branches of a tree in our front yard. This isn't exactly what I was expecting to get, but I rather like it.

Rakes Mill Dam

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I found this dam at the site of Rakes Mill while driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia. The miller, Jarman Rakes, allowed customers, and only customers, fish for brook trout in the mill pond while their grain was being ground.

Clarence Iris

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

This has been an unusual year in many respects. Among the unusual happenings in our yard has been the fact that we've had iris in bloom since early April. This picture of Clarence iris was taken in late July. As I write this we still have iris in bloom.

Lavender Deal Day Lily

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I usually add a few new plants to our garden every year. This year we added some new day lilies. Lavender Deal is one of our new ones; I think it looks beautiful in the early morning light.

American Falls at Niagara

This picture of the American Falls at Niagara comes from my archives. It was taken during a visit we made to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, in 2002.
