Sempervivum

One of the 'joys' of living on the Plateau is that we can have places in which the soil is only about an inch deep. Not even grass will grow well under those circumstances, so Betsy and I have turned to Sempervivum (Hens and Chicks) to grow in those areas. The clump in the picture above is in one of our flower beds where the soil barely covers the bedrock beneath it. But these semps seem to be doing quite well.

That's an interesting plant. I guess you have to be creative when the soil is limited.

Hens and chicks are really cool and they do grow anywhere. I have some growing in a couple of strawberry pots on the front steps of my townhouse. I'll have to post them one of these days.

I would love to have one of these beautiful succulents. When the ground are not suitable for typical plantings, species of these sorts are the best. No need of maintenance, just plant and forget and they thrive on their own. Thanks for dropping by.

Interesting! I have an area similarly shallow — I just might try this. Thanks, George!

I think they are doing very well, looking so lovely! I'm really fond of your garden. I have also seen beautiful photos on Betsy's blog. It looks like a nice place to relax and enjoy mother nature. Have a great week, George :)

That was interesting to know George. In our garden Sempervivums are growing in humus, but no problems with grass.

I like Your photo.
