October in the Smokies

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

In October Betsy and I went to the Foothills Parkway near Townsend, Tennessee.  We wanted to see the color in the Smokies, but didn't want to get caught up in all the traffic that is there this time of year.  The Parkway parallels the Smokies, but is not nearly as well known.  This is the view (looking toward the Smoky Mountains) at the first overlook we encountered.

Beautiful! The low double puff cloud in the background, looks like the old Mickey Mouse ears.

I love this scenery. You captured the essence of why I have said for years that East TN is the most beautiful place in the world.

Panoramic for sure. It's nice when you know the best places to go away from all the tourist traffic.
This makes a place really feel like home.

The sky is gorgeous above those colors George!
The only place I really mind the traffic is Cades Cove on a busy day. :)

It is a beautiful shot. I remember when my parents visited there but I have never been in the state. Landlocked in Iowa I guess.
