Our First Look at Pikes Peak

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I made a  big western trip last September, and Pikes Peak was our first major destination.  This was our first glimpse we got of the mountain from the  parking lot of our motel.  Betsy was especially delighted to see the snow.

Very majestic. Really dwarfs all the houses beneath it.

I wonder why it is called Pikes Peak? Is there a lake with pike up there? Or is it because it is long and looks like a pike or maybe the name refers to a person who lived up there?
Very nice shot !

My dad drove us up Pike's Peak when I was about 12. I was impressed, especially by the scary, narrow road and drop-offs. It's a beautiful place, and a lovely photo, George.

It's exciting to see something so iconic for the first time! I remember driving in Arizona and almost forgot to stay on the road!

Seeing that in person must have been spectacular George. We have a small skiff of snow here this morning.

we saw Pikes Peak from afar ... the price to get up those mountains were too pricey for us. we wondered why they would not allow us to use our national parks pass? oh well ... it was gorgeous from where we saw. ( :
