This is another picture from our trip to Virginia in 2007. I should have posted it before I posted yesterday's picture, but I didn't.
This picture was taken near Petersburg, Virginia, and shows Fort Stedman, a part of the Union siege line. Fort Stedman was attacked by the Army of Northern Virginia on March 25, 1865. The attack was the last serious attempt by Confederate troops to break the siege. The attack ultimately failed.

The grass looks like a golf course. I find it hard to imagine a battle taking place in such a beautiful place.
Before I clicked on it, I thought it was a golf course!!!
I try to imagine the soldiers were fighting, but, in a golf course.

Another interesting bit of history, thanks. Is there a strange atmosphere there?. Some places I have visited where battles have been fought have felt strange.
I find it both poignant and beautiful that mother nature can cover almost every trace of man's blood, sweat and tears…
