Painted Desert Inn
(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)
The Painted Desert Inn National Historic Landmark was originally built as a trading post, inn and restaurant for travelers along Route 66 in Arizona. It was originally built of petrified wood and other native stone in the 1920s. The building was extensively remodeled in the Pueblo Revival style during the late 1930s by the CCC. The inn now serves as a museum in the Petrified Forest National Park.

I can't see the timber, did they plaster the logs with mud to keep it cool?

Very interesting, George.
This building looks very interesting.I'll bet there are many fascinating things inside.
Looks like an interesting place with some real history behind it. I wonder if they are still operational or whether it is a just a tourist attraciton?
It looks like a cool building. Exactly what is required in Arizona.
I would be very inclined to visit this place out of curiosity to see how it is inside. Wow!
I love those old adobe buildings!!!
Interesting looking stuff that it's made out of, really smooth and bumpy. It reminds me of a Mexican fort!
truly and interesting building. i like adobe, we have quite a bit of it here in florida
It's a good thing they restore this place. And I love the red hue on this building. Great shot!
Big bucket
Its a pity its not still an Inn - like the drawing too George.
I love the look of adobe. And the colour here is wonderful in contrast to the pure blue sky.
I am glad it is now a museum.
I found this a very interesting place many, many years ago.
This post takes me completely to another world. Thanks!
Love the color contrasts with that blue sky. The building almost looks like it's made out of play doh! Great choice for a line drawing! I visited the Painted Desert several years ago. I don't remember seeing this building though...
Very interesting structure!
it's great that this place is still wonderfully preserved.
Pueblo Revival Style - - that is the first time I have ever heard of it and I watch a lot of HGTV!
What a lot of history in this building. I love the natural architecture. It seems to be carved out of the southwest landscape.
Isn't this the town of Bedrock...WILMA!!!!!
