From My Archives: Quarry Falls

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Quarry Falls is more of a cascade than a true waterfall. It is located in the Cullasaja River Gorge near Highlands, North Carolina, and gets its name from an old quarry on the other side of the road. We had this waterfall to ourselves when this picture was taken in December, but there are always many people around on a hot summer day.

Love that flowing water from small cascades to thundering waterfalls! Good one, George.

I can feel the "quietness" of the fall though there are many people around.

It looks very pretty. I wish the sound of the water could be transferred to the picture. I love the sound of water falls.

That's some really swift moving water! Nice.

It does not look like a waterfall, and now I am wondering about the requirements to be called either a waterfall or a cascade, that might make a good post!

Now you've got me wondering what the difference is between a waterfall and a cascade. :)

I can see why it would be a popular place for photographers and non-photographers alike, especially in the summer.
