Beehive Geyser

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I were fortunate enough to see the eruption of several geysers while visiting Yellowstone, including four different eruptions of Old Faithful.  One of the first eruptions we saw was this display by  Beehive Geyser.  We both thought the plume was gorgeous against that brilliant blue sky.

It was gorgeous. I've been fascinated by Yellowstone and returned there many times after my parents first took me there in 1955.

I have not been back to Yellowstone since I was a kid in the 60 's. You had a beautiful sky to be in your background.

That was one of my favorites too....and not just because of the name beehive. Ok, maybe it was the name. :)

Can't help wondering what effect that would have on a hairdo.

Great capture, George. Everything was working for you...the brilliant blue sky, the wind blowing the steam in the right direction, and that ranger that alerted you to the pending eruption. :)

It doesn't get much better than that. The blue sky is a perfect backdrop.

Nice shot George. I visited Mt. Lassen Volcanic National Park on my vacation but the steam vents there didn't make geysers like this, just some steam.

So cool. Did you have a chance to test the waters to see how hot it was?

I remember going to that geyser. You managed to get a great picture of it.

I've seen tv documentaries about these geysers. I must be thrilling to wait and then see one erupt and catch it on camera.
