Devil's Backbone

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

The Blue Ridge Parkway is an enchanting drive any time, even when the weather is not perfect.  We drove the Parkway in 2010 to celebrate Betsy's birthday, and stopped at the Devil's Backbone Overlook in Virginia.  The Devil's Background is almost lost in the distant clouds, but the valley below is still beautiful.

A beautiful valley as always. Speaking of Devils we just returned from North Dakota where we visited a town and lake of the same name....:)

Lovely! I understand that right now the overlooks and services on the parkway are closed due to the government "shutdown," but the road itself is open. Skyline Drive, however, is closed to traffic. ;-(

I remember goring through the Blue Ridge Parkway quite a few years ago with my husband. It really was a beautiful sight to see. Very nice b-day present for your lovely wife a few years ago!

A spectacular view down into the valley and across to the other side. A good way to celebrate that birthday in 2010!

Hi George, thanks for always visiting my posts.

I wonder why this is called such, there's a lot of names for titles, why do they have to use that name.

George, I LOVE this one, I visited there as a kid and brings back memories. I remember being there doing a bad thunderstorm....Is that common there?
