The Smokies in the Spring
(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)
In May, 2009, Betsy and I traveled from Cherokee, North Carolina, to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on Newfound Gap road. Along the way we stopped at an overlook, where I got this picture. According to the weather reporters these mountains are now covered in snow. I much prefer the Spring colors.

What a peaceful picture!
Thanks for sharing it.
Beautiful. YOu can understand why so many songs, stories and poems are written about the mountains.
Really? So many songs, stories and poems have been written about the mountains.
Interesting!!
Such a gorgeous view...I much prefer this to the snow also...Have a great weekend George!!!
What beauty! I'm in the Smokies on a regular basis and never cease to be refreshed by the beauty I see here.
Beautiful. It kind of reminds me of my mountains.
Very pretty and peaceful. Have a nice weekend.
if i get to go where i plan to go this march (in north asia), i hope to take pics as beautiful as this.
Ah Spring. Isn't it just around the corner. MB
Me, too, George. Those verdant hills hold so much more comfort than the all white!
Oh my goodness George, this is absolutely gorgeous!!!
what a breathtaking view. love the colours, it's so refreshing to look at.
What a lovely vista! I'm with you; I'd much rather see Spring colors than snow.
A spectacular view. I too would rather see the spring look than the cold white one!
Very nice George, I think snow on top of mountains just put the top on it,lol.
i think right now most of the country can say they prefer these beautiful spring colors. to much white going on in the south
Now that is one beautiful photo.

Layer upon layer of green and blue. Craving the colors of summer as well. Lovey image- xoxox teri
Oh I'll bet they are beautiful under a blanket of the white stuff too. Great layers here, so green and nice to view.
the image is so peaceful! simply wonderful! love the mountains so much. I spend every year a month just walking in the mountains with my husband. It's my fave time of the year. Have a wonderful weekend, George!

Beautiful capture!
Love the scenery.
Happy weekend.
Breath taking I can just imagine the cherokees living in there.
Amazing how life has changed.
I think to spend a week end in a teepee by a river would just be the greatest experience.
I know I said it before but I LOVE our mountains! You showed a beautiful side of them.
It sure is gorgeous in the spring!
I vote for Spring too!
Pretty shot George-have a great weekend.
With 65 days till spring. love you snap.

Yes George, all 7 of the dwarfs are there "holding" up the building. It's really cute. It's a Disney Studios building in Burbank, CA.

Spring. I am thinking of the work nature does to get there. I appreciate this all the more as I take it in from underneath 28 inches of new snow.
Wow! Breathtaking view!!
The mountains are beautiful in all the shades of green and blue. I'll bet it's pretty in its winter coat, too, but driving on snowy roads would not be fun.
Hope you have a great weekend and get a break from shoveling snow for awhile!
Beijinhos.

Wonderful landscape a nice picture.
They are beautiful ~ and I'm sure they are also very beautiful covered with snow ... but ... given a choice to see them (possibly soon) I hope the snow is gone. I've seen enough snow up here to last a life time.
This photo is very good! Its composition and the many different hues of green and blue! Very beautiful if enlarged.
Thank you for your visit and comment on the flood in Queensland. Now it is Brazil we have to pray for. The situation over there is very bad.
Wonderful indeed!
And I prefer de Spring colors too! And the warm weather.
Hugs.
I hope I make to the Smokies this spring/summer; but I'd love to see the mountains covered in snow. Not sure I'd like driving those curves though. :)
Beautiful spring shot George!
I wish it were spring and I was in this place. I love the Smokey Mountains.
I'll take The Springtime over the snow time anytime!

It's good to think about spring as we sit here where we have had snow on the ground for what seems like Weeks. We went from Gatlinburg to Cherokee a couple summers ago, then up through the Blue Ridge and Skyline Drive. Gorgeous.
I've got to go back and revisit this beautiful country. We camped at Smokey Mountain N.P. many years ago. I got sick and missed the "synchronous firefly" display which according to all reports was absolutely spectacular.
Thank you George for showing us a lovely picture of spring
What a wonderful sight for mid January! Just gorgeous..

Hi George, I guess from your stay in China, you know that when a disciple wants to respectively request his master/tutor to become his disciple, he needs to present his work. Only when the master deems the work are up to standard, then he will take him as the student.
I feel like I am your wanna be student. I had the perfect opportunity to take the photo, but the technique just wasn't good enough.
Should I go at mid day? so i don't get reflections? I took this photo about 3.30pm summer time.
For now I am so ready for Spring ^_^

It looks like I'm not the only one tired of winter. That is some gorgeous scenery! Thanks for always commenting on my blog, George and give Betsy my love.
George I have traveled that same route several times and I love it too. Your photo looks like an oil painting.
Wow that's a wonderful spot to take a picture, the mountains just look gorgeous.
WOW! That view takes my breath away! That should be printed poster-sized and displayed somewhere.
