Drawing from a Photo: Jigger Creek Falls

Several days ago I posted a picture of Jigger Creek Falls (here), which we visited in northern Georgia while on my birthday trip. The drawing above is based on another picture I took that day. I used Photoshop to convert the photo into a line drawing.

I first learned how to turn a photograph into line art of Scott's wonderful photo blog, Finding Another View.

Flowers From Our Yard: Mon Cherie Daffodil

More of our daffodils are blooming now. Each passing day makes our yard more and more colorful. We've had this beauty in our garden for a couple of years and we really like it.

Gazebo in the Moonlight

I keep trying my hand at night photography. I'm not always successful, but I do like this picture of a gazebo under a full moon. The picture was taken at the Islander Inn on Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, back in December, 2010.

Niagara River Below the Falls

I like the color of the water in this picture of the Niagara River below the falls.

Not-So-Super Super Moon

Saturday night's moon was called a Super Moon because it had it's closest approach to earth in 18 years. The moon was said to appear to be enormous on the horizon. It wasn't quite so super by the time it popped over the mountains to the east of us, but it was still beautiful.

Chocolate Satin

Muddy water flowing down a creek doesn't usually present a pretty picture. But I shot this photo just above Clay Creek Falls in Dahlonega, Georgia, last week after a heavy rain. The water makes me think of billowing chocolate-colored satin.

Flowers From Our Yard: Brecks Colossal Daffodil

Nothing says 'Spring' like a bright, sunny daffodil. I'm happy to say that Spring has arrived in our yard.

Plateau Sunset

Sunsets on the Plateau can be beautiful. I captured this picture of the afterglow from the golf course. I really like the red-gold color of the sky.

Drum Tower Ceiling

A couple of weeks ago I posted a picture of the drum in the Drum Tower of Xian. One of the interesting things about the Drum Tower is that it was constructed without the use of nails. Another thing is that the interior is richly and intricately decorated. This is the ceiling over the drum in the tower.

Jigger Creek Falls

On our way to Amicalola Falls State Park last week Betsy and I visited a new waterfall (for us) in the Cohutta Wilderness Area along the Tennessee-Georgia border. Jigger Creek Falls is a pretty waterfall adjacent to the road -- no hiking required.

Flowers From Our Yard: Pickwick Crocus

I'm starting to get Spring Fever. We have several clumps of Pickwick Crocus in our long flower bed. This is one of those clumps; the picture was taken late last week.

Mountain Sky in the Evening

This picture, from my archives was taken on a warm July evening in the mountains of western North Carolina. I like the color of the sky and the light coming down from heaven.

Possum Falls

This is an example of the serendipity that can occur when collecting waterfalls. We were traveling along on our way to some place else when we rounded a curve and saw this. We had no idea that there was a waterfall in the area. I hit the brakes (fortunately no one was behind us) and we stopped to enjoy this find. After getting home and doing some research, we discovered that we had stumbled upon Possum Falls.

Double Rainbow

While at Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, last May we had a storm one afternoon. It didn't last long, but as it was ending we saw a double rainbow. The lighting was a little strange, but I managed to capture this picture before the rainbow disappeared.

Flowers From Our Yard: Crocus

I snapped these crocus blossoms last Saturday. I never expected to have crocus blooming in our yard in February, but I'm not complaining.

Enjoying a Mountain Stream

Betsy enjoys a mountain stream almost as much as she enjoys waterfalls. This picture was taken in March, 2009, along the Little Pigeon River in the Greenbrier section of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Sound the Drum

One of the attractions of Xian, the ancient capital of China, is the Drum Tower. The Drum Tower, built in 1384, housed a large drum which was sounded at sunset to signal the end of the day. A similar tower on the opposite side of the city square contained a bell which was struck at dawn to signal the start of the day.
