Flowering Sempervivum

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

We have quite a few sempervivum (hens and chicks) about our yard. They are easy to care for, and as succulents, they have plump, colorful leaves even in winter. Sempervivum (the word means 'live forever') live for many years and, before they die, many send a flower stalk. It's a beautiful way to go.

These are beautiful, you can see the tiny hair on the petals.

Faktycznie dopiero zdjęcie powiększone pokazuję piękno wiecznie żyjących kwiatów. Pozdrawiam.
In fact, only magnified image showing the beauty of the ever living flowers. Yours.

Ours are doing just this and we didn't know why. Now we do!! I'm assuming they're dying because of the lack of rain or our cold mornings. Other than that I don't have a clue.

I miss our plants like this. The little girl who now resides at our old home really got a kick out of these growing on top of a large boulder!

It looks so very different from the agave....but maybe not! If I zeroed in on the tiny flowers on the agave blooms, I bet they would be very similar. Glad to learn this plant's name and what it means. Like the "Century plant" it doesn't live forever (or even a century) before it blooms, but I bet those waiting for them to bloom felt like they were waiting a century, or even forever!
