The Lee House

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

Several days ago I posted a picture of the Lee-Jackson House on the campus of Washington and Lee University. That home was a residence for both Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson. It is next door to the Lee House, the residence of the president of Washington and Lee. The Lee House was designed by Robert E. Lee when he was president after the Civil War. He designed the wrap-around porch to make it easier for his wife, who was wheelchair bound, to get around the house. Lee and his family lived in the house until his death in 1870.

That's a beautiful, graceful old home. I didn't know Lee's wife was wheelchair bound. Interesting that he designed the porch for her.

It's fun to go visit those old southern homes.

The picture is a lovely vision. I'd love to see inside, but I bet they wouldn't let you in this one, either.

Thanks for the memories. My late husband and I visited this home many years ago. I found it very interesting.

I wondered where Lee went. I knew that he had lived at what is now Arlington National Cemetary before the war.

I definitely would like to have a seat on the front porch. I'd read a good book and sip my coffee early in the morning.

I must be a lovely and quiet place where I can have some reading, but hopefully not to be distracted by the squirrel.

That house has definitely withstood the test of time.
Who doesn't love a wraparound porch. :)
