One of the nice things about living in the mountains of Tennessee is that the blooming season seems to go on and on. After our rhododendron are done blooming, we get to enjoy mountain laurel. We have a small mountain laurel at one of the corners of our deck.

when i enlarge the photo it looks like many little umbrellas, the kind the ladies used to carry a hundred years ago, a parasol. lovely flowers.
I'd always thought that rhododendron and mountain laurel were synonymous, but I see by the difference in the flower they are not! Are they 'cousins'?
To add further to Sandra's comment, they also look like the skirts that the ladies used to wear a hundred years ago.
Oh yes, I see parasols and the hoop skirts of long ago in these beautiful blossoms. Do they smell as good as they look?

Another great shot. This week end we came across wild roses. They are truly my favorite because the smell so good and bloom all year long.
Well most of it anyway.My husband took a few blossoms for the car and it filled the car with such an aroma it was hard not to keep trying to smell them as much as you could. What a treat.

The Mountain Laurel is so lovely and rather old fashioned looking, I'm thinking. Though we live in the mountains, I've never seen any!
This is a lovely plant George. I don't think it grows wild in Scotland, but I have seen some in private gardens.
