Behind Dry Falls

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

This picture was taken in December, 2009, but it seems to be appropriate for the weather we've been having. During warm weather it's possible to walk behind Dry Falls in North Carolina. But with all the ice when we visited the walk behind the falls was closed. I think that was a good idea.

Though the ice is dangerous, it is beautiful.

It is beautiful to see the icicles formed around and under the falling water.

Spectacular ice! Makes our icicles look rather tiny!

You are a brave soul to get as close as you did. That ice, though beautiful, looks treacherous. Waterfalls are beautiful even when frozen.

I am sure you would have found sights like that around here. Due more Wednesday. Lord help us!

A good idea for sure. I wouldn't want that ice falling on anyone. Pretty shot. MB

Must be really cold for them to freeze like that. I always thought that running water would not freeze.

Were you on this walk where the rail is? Or is that the part that was closed? It looks like you are on that path. Gads, a giant icicle could have fallen and punctured you in the head!!

Such a fascinating picture George, it's awfully pretty, despite the cold.
Wonderful shot !

What a beautiful photo! It is nice to see icicles, we don't see them around here (California). I enjoyed very much looking at your blog, particularly your rose pictures which are superb. I grow some of the same roses, and love Alec's Red (isn't the fragrance really strong?).

Those icicles look like a torture machine about to attack! But they are beautiful.

There is no better picture to describe 'freezing cold'

You didn't walk under all that ice did you? Dangerous but beautiful!

Wooh, good shot!

Also, you may or may not be pleased, but I have nominated your blog for an 'award'... please free to reject if it is too troublesome to accept...

the icicles are beautiful but be careful where you stand.

That looks cold! The icicles are beautiful, but it was good that no one walked under there.

I think it's a good idea, too! You could be killed by one of those icicles!

Great photo!

The cave opening looks like the mouth of a great barracuda. Be careful out there.

For twenty years, i dream of a white Christmas and winter. After two winters in Canada, I don't remember anything else of Canada except the BRRRR! winter, the icicles, the snow, the slush.

Cold powerful enough to stop that water must be respected! Wonderful photo, George.
