Hell's Fire Iris

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

I can't help wondering what happened this year. Our iris usually bloom toward the end of April. This iris, Hell's Fire, bloomed on March 31. I'm not sure how this iris got its name, but I think it's pretty in spite of it. We now have several iris in bloom.

i agree the color is truly amazing, and the name is strange for a flower. i love the little orange looking tonuge that is flopping out of it, or maybe it looks like an orange catepillar. beautiful flower

EVERYTHING is blooming WAY ahead of time! I really expect to see the Crepe Myrtles any day now!!! This is deep and beautiful. The namer must have been on drugs to envision a purple fire.

This iris really grabbed my attention. It is so pretty. Maybe it got it's name from the way it stands up and almost looks like flames shooting upwards.

The name is as colorful as the flower!
I think everything will bloom earlier this year because we've had so little winter.

Beautiful, glad that I clicked it. I wonder how the Iris got its name, Hell's Fire as its not really fiery red. isn't it? :-)

It's a gorgeous color! I really love it.

By the way, we missed seeing the Jamestown replica ships at sail too, and I was so disappointed. I think they did it at 9 am and we arrived after 10. It was so crowded for the anniversary, but I was glad we went!
