Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

The Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests is an impressive three-tiered wooden structure that was built entirely without nails. Like all buildings in the Temple of Heaven it is round, like heaven in Chinese tradition.

The picture above was scanned from a slide.

It's amazing how this could endure through the years without a single nail to hold it together.

Very beautiful I find round building very amazing. While not in this class---we have several Geodesic homes out here. I wonder what living in the round would be like. MB

Chinese people are incredibly gifted.
They make the most incredible things.
I watched girls working on pottery. It takes so much patience and hand skill and concentration to create the beautiful things that they do.

Phil's guess is that the wood is notched.

Amazing building -- not to demean the beautiful edifice, but it reminds me of the historic Hotel Coronado in CA. That two was built without nails, I believe.

How interesting the Heaven is round in the Chinese tradition!

Without nails?! I wonder how they pulled that off.

Interesting that the Chinese consider heaven is round. Building the 3 tiers must have been quite an architectural feat, especially without nails!
