Nine Dragon Screen

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

The Nine Dragon Screen is the oldest and largest glazed screen in China. It was made over 600 years ago of 426 specially-designed glazed bricks and is about 149 feet long. It is in the Palace Museum (Forbidden City) in Beijing. The area in front of the screen was being renovated when this picture was taken.

The picture above was scanned from a slide.

I've never seen this before George. Thank you for sharing the photo/slide. I have my great aunt's dragonware teaset from the 1920's that has a similar pattern. How wonderful that you have seen this in person.

600 years is amazing to me, its beautiful and to have lasted that long. i am sure it would be easy to break it and it surprised me it is still standing.

A gorgeous piece of 'art'!

Thanks for always sharing those things some of us would never experience otherwise.

That is spectacular.I just think that most things built nowadays won't last that long.

Its like I've been there and seen it for myself but don't know where.

I wonder how many Chinese peasants it took to do the hard labor to build the Dragon Screen?
