Sempervivum in Bloom

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

We have quite a few varieties of sempervivum (hens and chicks) around our yard. A hen will sometimes bloom before it dies, and although it is sad to lose a hen, the blossoms, though small, are beautiful. This picture was taken last month.

The flowers just bloom for you.
You see, the rest that prefer to stay behind are far from blooming.

I didn't know they bloomed...of course I can't grow them so of course I didn't know they bloomed. I've always killed them before they had a chance to bloom!!!
Thanks for sharing George and have a wonderful weekend!!!

Gosh, I don't know if I've seen any in bloom! I must have, but for sure not this pretty! They have never been one of my favorites, but I wouldn't turn this one down if someone offered it! Very cute! I hope you have a lovely time with your parents and the weather stays good.

I have a little plant that I call hen and chicken. It certainly does not look like this. I have never seen this. I love it.

You make me want to continue painting now again.
I am into knitting. Made six hats and 2 + scarves so far. When my hands begin to hurt I will go back to painting hahahahaha

I love the intricate design with its crown-like pistils that frame that neon-green center. Lovely! Good composition too, George. Artistically photographed.

Nice shot of the blooms, George. It always surprises me when the hens and chicks bloom, I don't know why!

My Gram had these all over her yard, but I was never around when they bloomed. Gorgeous!

I have not seen flowers like this.

because of my new plant, I have been googling into succulents.

How true that the hens die. I had a whole wall with hens and chicks. I know they were there last year. But since I started blogging, i ignored my plants. I went to the wall to take photos today. They had all gone. Very very strange, and I feel guilty for ignoring my plants.

I enlarged your photo and I was amazed to see the tiny hairs on the buds. You are quite the pro photographer, George.
I think hens and chicks are so delightful to look at, I love them...I guess in part because they remind me of my grandmother.. happy memories, thanks for sharing the joy of all of your magnificent flowers, George.

Have a blessed Sunday and enjoy time with your sweetheart!

What a delicate and beautiful little flower. From the hairs on the edges, that you can see when you enlarge it, I would say it's quite tiny. Love the colors.
