Climbing the Great Wall
(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)
This is a scan of a slide made in 1990 at the Great Wall. In 1987, on my first visit there, I climbed the wall from the gate at Badaling, hear the buildings in the foreground, to the watch tower on the ridge at the right of the picture. Our host told me that climb made me a Hero of the People's Republic.

You know, I am not a Hero of the People's Republic yet.
Hail the conquering Hero, George well done.
You're definitely a hero for climbing that wall! I can't imagine what it must feel like to stand on top of it!
Wow, you certainly were a hero to climb the wall!
you have had many adventures in your life. That is quite a walk!
Great photos - all of them. Just getting around to some blog reading after a few days.
Thanks for sharing this unique adventure. That wall amazes me,what a great structure!

My walking shoes are off to you George! That's a hike!
Wow!
That is some achievement!
I like the sepia style of color in this old photo.
After the text, I read, I am sure that You are a real hero.
