Quarry Falls
(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)
The Cullasaja River drops about 1400 feet within about seven miles of Highlands, North Carolina. The river drops over two major waterfalls and several smaller falls and cascades as it travels through the gorge. One of the smaller falls is Quarry Falls. I took this picture in December, 2009, but the falls is much more popular in summer, when young people gather here to beat the heat. Because of this popularity, Quarry Falls is also known as Bust-Your-Butt Falls!

Its nickname made me laugh and wince at the same time. That must hurt! ;)
Lovely waterfall and even better nick name :D
I don't think I want to go down those falls on my butt for sure, but it makes a wonderful picture. i wish we had sound of the water from all of your waterfalls you have seen.
Ouch! I imagine those rocks can be a little painful.
Sunny :)
Bust your butt...your head, your legs, your arms!!!
Bust your butt??
Great nickname and falls.
Just beautiful. Don't you just love being out in nature? I sure do.
And I'm sure that's what I would do, too! Does anyone ever stand under the milder falls and shower, like in the movies? Dare I ask if you two daredevils have ever done that (with your clothes on,of course!)
You have some great hiking areas. I was out on a short hike yesterday and there were a few early wildflowers. I have posted that hike on my "Hiking With An 'Old' Lady" blog.

I would love to see this fall someday! It is so fascinating and your photo is great, because it is as if I see the water really falling down! Thanks for showing.
I never cease to be amazed at the amount of falling water you encounter where you live. Here in So Cal, many waterfalls are 'trickles' much of the year ... seriously!
Hugs and blessings,

Looks like a beautiful place.
Yes, nothing like the spray from rough falls on a hot summer day.
Oh, even I would want to splash in there! Water is coming in strongly! Nice capture, George!
I agree with what Hilda said!
