Rose of the Week: Dolly Parton

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

I've decided to start a series featuring one rose from our yard each week.  This is the first in the series.

Dolly Parton is an east Tennessee icon.  Her Dollywood amusement park caused tourist to spend even more time (and money) in our part of the state, and her Imagination LIbrary, which mails age-appropriate books to the homes of preschoolers, has helped raise literacy levels in our schools.

Dolly Parton also has a rose, which we have enjoyed for several years, named after her.  I wonder if the fact that this is a 'plump' rose had anything to do with the naming of it?

As stunning as Dolly herself. I saw her on TV yesterday and she is amazing. Her Imagination Library is just great. MB

I must be honest and say that this rose is much more beautiful than it's namesake. Just my opinion.

Gorgeous!!! I find it so hard to photograph red flowers, the camera just doesn't want to focus. But you did an excellent job! Crisp and clear. And yes, even prettier than Dolly.

You've captured this rose so well. A lovely colour and the petals look so velvety. You're blessed to have so many different roses in your garden.

One of my favorite roses and one that I lost this year. I was able to find a replacement from Rogue and am hoping to receive it to plant this weekend.

we watched a movie of Dolly Barton and Queen Latifah. My daughters were admiring how good Dolly looked. Not at all "plump"

Didn't know Dolly Parton had a rose named after her. This vibrant red one seems to be appropriate! Been to Dollyworld and enjoyed it.

Beautiful Rose George, I didn't realize they were so many varieties of roses. Look forward to learning more about other varieties.
