Gaither Mountain Simrise

(Note:  This picture may be enlarged by clicking on it using Control-click or right-click.)

Several years ago, on a trip to Arkansas, Betsy and I got up early one morning to catch the sunrise over Gaither Mountain.  It was definitely worth getting up early to see, and that is where I got this image of the rising sun.  I used software to make the image look more like a painting, and this is the result.

Golden Sunrise

(Note:  This picture may be enlarged by clicking on it using Control-click or right-click.)

Betsy and I have visited Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, in early December for several years now.  We enjoy the peace and tranquility of the the beach at that time of year.  An added bonus is that the sunrises can be spectacular with a light that has to be seen to be fully appreciated.  I got this photo from our room early one morning six years ago.

Gatlinburg Sunrise

(Note:  This picture may be enlarged by clicking on it using Control-click or right-click.)

Several years ago Betsy and I got up early in the morning (before dawn) to drive to the Smokey Mountains.  We stopped at an overlook on the Gatlinburg Bypass to watch the sun come up, where I got a picture of the sunrise.  I later used software to make the photo look more like a water color painting.  I hope you like it.

Dawn's Early Light

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

When Betsy and I are at Mt. Nebo in Arkansas, we get up before dawn so we can see sights like this.  This picture was taken from Sunrise Point on the mountain looking down into the Arkansas River valley below.  What a way to start the day!  February 12, 2013.

Dawn's Early Light

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

My Beautiful Bride and I ave learned over the years at the beach that each sunrise has its own unique beauty.  This image was captured at Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina, in December 2019.

Early Morning at Ocean Isle Beach

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

One of the reasons My Beautiful Bride and I keep going back to Ocean Isle Beach in December is that we can enjoy beautiful views of the sunrise (and ocean) from our room at the Islander Inn.

Morning in the Glade

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I are constantly amazed at what a beautiful place we live.  In June the beauty shows up early in the morning, as this picture from the golf course behind our house shows.  What a way to start the day!!

Morning at the Beach

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I enjoy going to North Carolina’s Ocean Isle Beach in December for a couple of reasons.  One is that December is the ‘slow’ season, so there aren’t as many people on the beach as at other times.  The second reason is that if we wake up early enough we can see some beautiful sunrises.  As that old song says, ‘Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning’!

Wyoming Morniing Sky

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I started home before dawn after our trip out west earlier this year. We had been on the road for quite a while when dawn started to break out in Wyoming. We just had to stop and get pictures of the sky and the Hoback River as the sun announced a glorious day ahead.

Sunrise on Skyline Drive

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

There are some advantages to getting up before dawn in order to get on the road early for a trip home.  That is exactly what Betsy and I did when we left Skyland on the Skyline Drive in Virginia for our trip home after celebrating Betsy’s birthday.

Getting up while it is still dark is not my favorite thing to do (I did enough of that before I retired!).  But getting up that early did provide some benefits, one of which was this view of a beautiful sunrise seen from Thorofare Mountain Overlook on Skyline Drive.

Mt. Nebo Moon

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I enjoy getting up before the crack of dawn when we visit Mt. Nebo State Park in Arkansas.  That gives us time to get to Sunrise Point in order to see a beautiful sunrise.  One morning this year I got this picture of the moon while we were waiting for the sun to put in an appearance.

Early Morning Beauty

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

I remember hearing a song ‘O How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning’ as a child.  That song has been on my mind a great deal since Betsy and I have started taking early morning walks around the golf course behind our house.  (We have to get an early start so we finish before the golfers arrive!).  But although I may hate getting up, there are some definite rewards that make it all worthwhile.  This is one of those rewards.  Taken April 30, 2016.

Glade Morning Sky

It's not always easy to get up at the crack of dawn, but my Beautiful Bride and I make an attempt to do so in order to walk the golf course before the golfers take it over.  Although there are days when I would like nothing more than stay in bed, getting up bright and early enables to see the glories of God's magnificent creation.  This scene greeted us last week as we made our way around the back nine of the Druid Hills Golf Course.

Pier At Sunrise

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I got up each morning we were at the beach in order to watch the sunrise.  I captured this photo on our last morning as we were loading up the car to head home.  The sun had not yet popped up over the horizon, but I really liked the colors in the sky.  The pier and the reflections in the sand were a nice bonus.

Sunrise on Mt. Nebo

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Betsy and I get up early almost every morning when we visit Mt. Nebo to go to Sunrise Point to watch the sun come up on the other side of the Arkansas River valley.  It’s definitely a beautiful way to start the day.

Gatlinburg Sunrise

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Several weeks ago Betsy and I got up very early in the morning so we could get to the Gatlinburg Bypass as the sun was coming up over the Smoky Mountains.  Our timing was pretty good, and I was able to capture this image just before the sun popped over the mountain.  The mist in the valley was an added bonus.

Mt. Nebo Sunrise

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.  Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

If you've followed this blog for any length of time you know how much Betsy and I enjoy Mt. Nebo in Arkansas and the sunsets we see from 'our' cabin.  But the sunrises are also pretty special.  We have to get up early enough to get to Sunrise Point, but as this photo shows, it is well worth the effort.

A Cloudy Morning on the Mountain

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Sunsets and sunrises are always special on Mount Nebo in Arkansas. That's one reason -- but not the only reason -- we go back every year. We can enjoy the sunsets from the back of our cabin, but we have to get up and drive to Sunrise Point to see the sunrise. This picture was taken on a cloudy, foggy morning on our visit in 2011. We didn't see much of the sun that morning, but I did get this picture of the fog and clouds in the valley below us.

Morning in the Mountains

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

I captured this wonderful sight on an early November morning last year at Hazel Mountain Overlook on the Skyline Drive in Virginia. The day started very foggy and cloudy, but as the sun came up it started to break through the fog and clouds. We came upon this sight a few minutes later.

Morning in the Smokies

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it. Clicking a second time will make it full-sized.)

Sometimes we get rewarded for getting up before dawn. Betsy and I got up early one day last month to drive to the Smokies so we could see the autumn colors in the morning light. It was a cloudy day, but we were treated to this sight at an overlook on the Gatlinburg Bypass.
