Juneau Airport

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

When I went to China for the first time, our group left Ohio the day before Father's Day in 1987. It was a hot, humid day as can only happen in the Midwest when August arrives ahead of schedule.

Our flight was supposed to be a direct one from Detroit to Hong Kong, but contrary headwinds forced a stop n Juneau, Alaska, for refueling. It was quite a change to see snow-covered mountains through the plane's windows.

The picture above was scanned from a slide.

A unexpected cooling off respite from whence you came and a free ride to Alaska too.
But it must have made for a long journey, George.

I am wondering if you would visit China now if you had the chance.

Beautiful scenery George. We certainly have had some sweltering heat so far this summer! Next time I am out watering the plants in the heat, I'll remember this "cool" photo!

Beautiful snow capped mountains.
I am wondering...does the airport look the same today? Probably not.

Certainly looks cool George. Did you get off the plane while you were there?

That's a foreboding and impressive airport with it's background.

I liked Juneau a lot when we visited a few years ago. Even though it was the end of June, it was only in the 50s. I loved their 'liquid sun' gauges!

That's a pretty impressive airport for 1987.
I bet just seeing the snow cooled you off.
Blessings,Ruth

I flew over Alaska en route to Japan and the Philippines five years ago. I'd like to touch down for a proper visit some time.
