Rhododendron

(This picture can be enlarged by clicking on it.)

One of the nice things about living in the mountains is the rhododendron that we find in many places. One nice thing about hiking to waterfalls in the Spring is that there are often blooming rhododendron in the same area. We're doubly fortunate because this beauty is in our own yard along the back deck.

One of the nice things about visiting your blog is I can see your beautiful rhododendron without any travelling.

we also have local flowers growing over the hills and small waterfalls here. Some people even took some shoots so that they could plant a variety on their garden.

Thanks for sharing the picture George. I love the color of it.

in my opinion, this photo makes them look much prettier and more delicate than they really are.

AH! Lucky you! Rhododendrons don't do well in my climate and in my alkaline soil.

I love Rhododendrons but in many parts of Scotland they have become invasive and are being cleared to give native plants a chance.

When you two made the decision to locate here, no doubt you made the right choice. You seem to be surrounded by nature's beauty as well as what you make for yourselves.

Our state flower here.
We planted one the first year we were here and the deer kept nibbling off the buds so it never ever bloomed until this year after we put up a green garden fence around it. It wasn't a pretty bloom from all the nibbling but I'm hoping next year it will be a beautiful shape.

I only hear about rhododendrons in the books that I read. Such a delicate yet showy flower!
